-
Can I meet kitties ahead of time?Absolutely! We encourage prospective adopters to meet our kitties before making a decision. Building a connection with your future furry friend is important. We require meet-and-greet sessions to ensure compatibility and to facilitate a smooth transition for both you and the cat. Simply reach out to schedule an appointment, and we'll be delighted to introduce you to our wonderful cats! Just know that some kitties may be spending time with different foster paw-rents so you may have to visit them in different locations if you are wanting to meet ones with different families.

Are there taxes in addition to adoption fees? No. Thanks to the passing of Texas SB 197, effective October 1, 2021, animal rescue organizations are exempt from paying sales tax on adoption fees. Previously, only nonprofit animal welfare organizations operating out of physical facilities qualified for the sales tax exemption. If you're adopting within Texas from a rescue organization and encounter a request for taxes on top of adoption fees, we recommend questioning it, as such charges have not been required since 2021.

What is the Whisker Warm-Up Window? The Whisker Warm-Up Window is a unique foster-to-adopt 2-week period designed to create a seamless transition for both our kittens and their prospective families. This special timeframe allows you to foster our adorable feline friends, giving you the opportunity to experience the joys of their companionship before making a final commitment. During this period, you'll have the chance to assess compatibility, build a bond, and ensure a purr-fect match. Adoption fees are fully refundable with the safe return of the kitties within the Whisker Warm-Up Window. It's our way of ensuring that both you and the kittens have the opportunity to find your happily-ever-after together, stress-free and with full peace of mind.
-
Can I skip the Whisker Warm-up Window and get ownership immediately?Unfortunately, we do not allow bypassing the Whisker Warm-Up Window. This special foster-to-adopt 2-week period is designed to ensure a smooth transition for both our kittens and their prospective families. It provides an opportunity for compatibility assessment, bonding, and creating a purr-fect match. The Whisker Warm-Up Window is a crucial step in our adoption process, allowing both the adopter and the kittens to get acquainted before making a final commitment. This ensures a successful and lasting adoption. We believe in the importance of this period to create a strong foundation for a lifelong bond, and we appreciate your understanding and cooperation in following our adoption procedures.

What all is required during the Whisker Warm-Up Window?Supervision and Outdoor Restrictions: During the 2-week Whisker Warm-Up Window, kittens and cats are not allowed to roam outdoors without full supervision. Communication on Issues: Adopters must notify Jack of All Cats immediately of any behavioral or health issues during the Whisker Warm-Up Window. The rescue may request the return of the kittens in case of any concerns. Return Requests and Pair Dynamics: If one of the kittens in a pair is not a good match, we may visit the option of swapping out one kitten for one of the other litter mates. Our goal is to adopt littermates in pairs, when possible, to ensure the happiness of our kittens and to help mitigate issues that arise with “single-kitten syndrome.” We may discuss the possibility of a single kitten adoption after review and discussion. If an agreement is made, the cost difference of $100 shall be refunded to the adopter. We may require the return of both kittens in the meantime. Responsibilities of Adopters: Adopters are responsible for providing supplies, food, and other necessities during the Whisker Warm-Up Window for the kittens and thereafter. During the Whisker Warm-Up Window, we kindly request that you continue feeding the kitties their current diet. Cats, in general, may not respond well to sudden diet changes, and maintaining their existing diet helps keep them stable, especially in the event they are returned and revert to their previous diet. This precaution helps prevent unnecessary bouncing back and forth between different foods, minimizing the risk of digestion upset. Following the Whisker Warm-Up Window, if you wish to transition your kitties to a new diet, we recommend doing so gradually. Utilizing a titrated feeding plan, as suggested by the new food's guidelines, ensures a smoother transition, allowing your feline friends to adjust comfortably to their new culinary delights. If issues arise, the rescue must be notified, and requests to return will be addressed through an arranged process. No Dumping or Dropping Off: Adopted kittens are not to be dumped or dropped off at foster parents' homes, other rescues, animal shelters, or any other location. By embracing the Whisker Warm-Up Window and encouraging pair adoptions, Jack of All Cats aims to create loving and lasting connections, ensuring the happiness and well-being of the kittens in their new homes.

Why did someone else get to adopt a cat over me?We are so grateful for your , and we understand that the adoption process can bring a mix of emotions. The decision to place a cat in a new home involves various factors, including compatibility, living arrangements, and the specific needs of the cat. In some cases, adopters express interest in the same cat, making the decision challenging. One factor that may influence the decision is the willingness of adopters to keep pairs of kittens together. We prioritize the well-being and happiness of our cats, and when adopters are open to adopting pairs, it helps us ensure that siblings or bonded pairs can stay together in their new homes. If you were not selected for a particular cat, it does not impact your eligibility or suitability as a loving pet parent. We encourage you to continue exploring other cats available for adoption, as there may be an ideal match waiting for you. We appreciate your understanding and patience throughout this process, and we are here to assist you in finding the perfect feline companion for your home. Thank you for your continued support!
